Things I tell myself: If another person can lose weight, get fit and really toned I can too. There is absolutely no reason why I can’t do exactly the same thing.

Hula Hooping Is Fun And Provides A Great Workout

I recently became quite interested in hula hooping as an exercise when I came across someone on Tumblr who told me she used hooping to lose quite a lot of weight (Check out her blog HERE). She inspired me so much that I ordered one on Amazon for myself and it will arrive tomorrow. I'm so excited about getting started because I know for sure that I'll enjoy this form of exercise.

While researching hula hooping I  found the video below on YouTube and I encourage you to watch it because it clearly demonstrates that not only is hula hooping fun, it will also help you get a good cardiovascular workout and help tone up your body as well.

Any time Is Salad Time

Any time is salad time - I recently developed a love for and fascination with salads. Whenever I made salads in the past I never really put much thought into them; salads always felt a bit like a medicine I had to take rather than a tasty, filling dish to enjoy. I have recently discovered so many salad ideas online that have inspired me to create and experiment with my own. I now eat salads every day sometimes twice a day. So if you're not eating a salad a day, check out online recipes, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the variety of salad ideas that are bound to make you fall in love with salads too.

The Health Benefits of Coffee

I never thought I'd ever create a blog post on the health benefits of coffee since all I'd ever heard about coffee in relation to health was how bad it can be for you. So you can imagine my surprise when I found the following Wikipedia entry on coffee:

Researchers involved in an on-going 22-year study by the Harvard School of Public Health state that "the overall balance of risks and benefits [of coffee consumption] are on the side of benefits." For example, men who drank six or more cups of coffee per day were found to have a 20% reduction in developing prostate cancer.

Other studies suggest coffee consumption reduces the risk of being affected by Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, cirrhosis of the liver, and gout. A longitudinal study in 2009 showed that those who consumed a moderate amount of coffee or tea (3–5 cups per day) at midlife were less likely to develop dementia and Alzheimer's disease in late-life compared with those who drank little coffee or avoided it altogether.

The presence of antioxidants in coffee has been shown to prevent free radicals from causing cell damage. A recent study showed that roast coffee, high in lipophilic antioxidants and chlorogenic acid lactones, protected primary neuronal cell cultures against hydrogen peroxide-induced cell death.

Kony 2012 - This Video Has Nothing To Do With Weight Loss And Fitness But I Felt Compelled To Post It Here To Help Spread The Message

I received this video in my inbox today and felt it was my moral duty to post it here in the hope that I can play a small part in spreading the message. Please watch it and then pass it on in whatever way you can. Thank you.

PS. If you are considering whether or not to pass on this video consider the quote below that a friend sent to me today....

First they came for the Communists,
but I was not a communist so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists,
but I was neither, so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Jews,
but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out.
And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out
for me.
-Pastor Martin Niemöller

Starvation Diets Do Not Work

It can seem that a drastic reduction of calories is a viable method to shed pounds quickly but this is not a long term solution. The only long term solution to weight gain is to find ways to develop new habits. Take it slowly, change one thing about your eating and exercise at a time. Don't try to change all your habits at once. Habit change is the key.

Focus On Fitness

Focus on fitness

Focus on fitness and weight loss will take care of itself.

This has been my experience. When I first began my weight loss journey my focus was entirely on weight loss, but once I lost 30lbs I realised the only way to continue losing weight, without starving myself or being obsessively focused on calories would be to focus on fitness as a lifestyle. This new focus is helping me shed the extra pounds and it will do the same for you.
